KIMed at the Government District Open Day
At the Government District Open Day in Dresden, KIMed provided engaging insights into the possibilities and limitations of medical AI

KIMed hosted an interactive exhibition stand at the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism during the Government District Open Day on 6 September 2026. Numerous visitors took the opportunity to learn about how artificial intelligence works and how it is used in medicine.
An AI quiz provided an introduction to the topic, allowing visitors to test their knowledge and learn more about current medical applications, the development of AI models and the protection of sensitive health data. The quiz focused on key questions surrounding the responsible use of this technology: Where is AI already being used in medicine? What data does it require? And how can medical information be adequately protected?
The interactive “AI Error” activity illustrated how strongly the results produced by an AI system depend on the data used and the task it is given. Participants had their photograph taken and then discovered which category the AI assigned their image to. The surprising results clearly demonstrated why unsuitable or incomplete inputs can lead to incorrect classifications.
In addition to sharing knowledge, the event provided an opportunity for personal and professional dialogue. Saxony’s Minister of Science, Sebastian Gemkow, and State Secretary Professor Heike Graßmann visited the KIMed exhibition stand and spoke with the project team about the network’s development to date. Their discussion covered the progress made in collaboration between the participating institutions, the project’s ongoing development and current challenges relating to the use of artificial intelligence in medicine.
The KIMed team also used the event as an opportunity to connect with other exhibitors. Discussions with other initiatives and institutions helped strengthen existing relationships, explore new approaches and identify potential opportunities for future collaboration. The Government District Open Day therefore contributed both to accessible science communication and to networking across projects and institutions.
The KIMed exhibition stand was planned and hosted by the partner sites at Leipzig University and Mittweida University of Applied Sciences.
