AI Competence for Medicine: Building Skills Systematically with the AI Campus

From Foundational Knowledge to Specialised Expertise – Free Learning Opportunities for Clinicians, Researchers and Industry Professionals

Author: Dr Kathrin Sobe, Dresden University of Technology, 10 February 2026

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming healthcare and opening up new perspectives for diagnostics, therapy and organisational processes. This development is being driven by interdisciplinary teams of clinicians, computer scientists and users specialising in the application of AI in medicine. For anyone looking to expand their expertise in this field, the AI Campus offers a wide range of free learning opportunities – from introductory courses to specialised topics.

What Is the AI Campus?

The AI Campus is Germany’s learning platform for Artificial Intelligence. It is operated by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft e. V. and was initially funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). Since its launch in 2019, the platform has developed into the leading German-language educational resource for AI. More than 100,000 learners are currently making use of its offerings.

The platform provides courses featuring learning materials such as videos and podcasts, as well as practical exercises. A dedicated filtering system on the website enables users to quickly identify relevant courses by topic area and level of difficulty. This allows learners to build on their individual prior knowledge and professional requirements, whether they are clinicians with no programming experience, researchers working on methodological development or product managers in the MedTech industry.

Recommended Courses on AI Applications in Medicine

For those looking to enter the world of Artificial Intelligence and its applications in healthcare, the following courses are recommended:

These courses are ideal for building a solid foundation before exploring more specialised topics such as Machine Learning or Deep Learning in medicine.

Advanced Learning: AI in Medicine

Those who already have a basic understanding of AI and are looking to deepen their knowledge of medical AI can choose from a wide range of specialised learning opportunities.
